These photos are from one of our surveys, not a sales page. Mould like this usually means a live source of moisture — a leak, failed pointing, a bathroom with no extraction. ProTHERM helps with condensation on cold walls; it does not fix a leak, and we won’t sell it as if it does. If your stairwell looks like this, we’ll tell you what needs sorting first — even when it isn’t work we’d be paid for.

Inspection
We look at the affected walls, check where the cold spots are, and try to work out whether you're dealing with condensation, penetrating damp or something else.
Identifying the real cause
Ventilation, heating patterns, a cold external wall, a leak. Coating over an unresolved cause wastes your money.
Mould cleaning and treatment
Existing growth cleaned and treated rather than painted over.
Filling and preparation
Surface made good and prepared.
ProTHERM application
Applied to walls and ceilings in the affected rooms.
Decorative overcoating
Where you want it — it can be finished over.
Suitable for
- Cold external walls in bedrooms that mould up every winter
- Bathrooms and kitchens with persistent surface condensation
- Cold rooms above garages or in extensions
- North-facing rooms that never warm up
Not suitable for
- Rising damp
- Active leaks — plumbing, roof or gutter
- Rooms where the actual answer is ventilation or heating, which we'll tell you

How it works
Warmer wall surface, less condensation.
Condensation forms where warm, moist air meets a cold surface. ProTHERM is designed to keep the wall surface warmer than standard emulsion would, so there is less for moisture to condense onto. The diagram below is the manufacturer's own.
Performance depends on the room, the wall and the cause of the problem. ProTHERM is a surface coating, not a substitute for insulation or ventilation — if that is what your room actually needs, we will tell you at the inspection.

Will this cure my damp?
It depends entirely on what's causing it. Surface condensation on cold walls is what ProTHERM is designed for. Rising damp, penetrating damp and leaks are different problems and this won't solve them. That's why we inspect before recommending anything.
Is it a substitute for insulation?
No. It's a coating for the wall surface, not a replacement for proper insulation or ventilation. Where insulation is the real answer we'll say so — Acorn Home can handle that side.
Can I decorate over it?
Yes, it can be overcoated decoratively. We'll go through the options at the inspection.
